About

Scribus is a cross-platform Open Source page layout program with the aim of producing commercial grade output in PDF and Postscript. Originally developed on Linux, Scribus also runs natively on MacOSX and Windows 2000 and XP. The goals of the program are to make professional page layout accessible for beginners without limiting support for professional publishing features such as: spot color support, CMYK color, high grade PDF creation, Encapsulated Postscript import/export and creation of color separations.

Scribus supports most major graphic formats in addition to SVG. Other features include support of CMYK colors and spot colors, ICC color management and scripting using Python. Scribus is available in more than 24 languages.

Printing is done via its own internal level 3 PostScript driver, including support for font embedding and sub-setting with TrueType, Type 1 and OpenType fonts. The internal driver fully supports Level 2 PostScript constructs and very large set of Level 3.

PDF 1.5 support includes transparency, encryption and a large set of the PDF specification including interactive PDF form fields, annotations, layers and bookmarks.

The file format is based on XML and is fully documented and supports imports from OpenDocument format standard.
